Klobuchar Statement on New Reports Detailing Russia’s Use of Information Warfare to Influence Elections

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement after reports commissioned by the Senate Intelligence Committee were released, highlighting the Internet Research Agency’s (IRA) use of online platforms to sow division and influence discourse in the United States.

“For the last two years Congress has been investigating the tactics Russia used in its attack on our democracy. The reports released today show that Russia’s operation to divide Americans and undermine people’s trust in government was highly sophisticated, coordinated, and well financed. As we move forward with a common set of facts about how Russia exploited online platforms to hurt us, we must come together with a common purpose to ensure it never happens again. Congress should move swiftly to pass my Honest Ads Act and Secure Elections Act to bring more transparency and accountability to online platforms and help prevent foreign interference in our elections.”
