WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement on the released record of the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“The record of this call is deeply disturbing—the President solicited a foreign leader to investigate a political rival and his family, prioritizing his personal gain over the national security interests of the United States. President Trump indicated that he would direct his personal attorney and the chief law enforcement official in the U.S. to coordinate with any potential Ukrainian investigation. Reports suggest that days before, the President instructed his acting chief of staff to withhold nearly $400 million in military aid from Ukraine. All those involved must now testify before Congress, and the Administration must publicly release the larger whistleblower complaint so that we have all the facts.
“Yesterday, the House of Representatives announced the start of an impeachment inquiry into the President and his actions while in office and I called for and support that proceeding. The President has violated the public’s trust. We have a responsibility to the American people to hold the President accountable and protect the United States and our constitution.”
